Brown Returns Porzingis Struggles

Celtics Dominate Mavericks in Game 1 of NBA Finals

Brown Returns, Porzingis Struggles

The Boston Celtics opened the 2024 NBA Finals with a commanding 107-89 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on June 6th at Chase Center. Jaylen Brown led the way for the Celtics with 24 points and 7 rebounds, while Jayson Tatum added 21 points and 12 rebounds. Luka Doncic paced the Mavericks with 20 points and 7 assists, but shot just 6-of-17 from the field.

Celtics Take Control Early

The Celtics jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They shot 50% from the field in the first quarter, including 6-of-12 from three-point range, to build a 30-15 lead. The Mavericks struggled to keep up, shooting just 33% from the field in the opening period. The Celtics extended their lead to 20 points by halftime, and the Mavericks never threatened in the second half.

Brown Returns from Injury

Brown, who had missed the last two games of the Eastern Conference Finals with a hamstring injury, returned to the lineup for the Celtics in Game 1. He played 34 minutes and looked like his old self, scoring efficiently and providing a spark on the defensive end. His return was a major boost for the Celtics, who are hoping to win their 18th NBA championship.

Porzingis Struggles in Game 1

Kristaps Porzingis, who had been a major factor for the Mavericks in the playoffs, struggled in Game 1. He finished with just 9 points on 3-of-11 shooting. Porzingis was also a liability on the defensive end, as he struggled to contain Brown and Tatum. The Mavericks will need Porzingis to be more effective in Game 2 if they want to get back into the series.

Game 2 on Wednesday

The Celtics and Mavericks will play Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, June 12th at Chase Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 pm.
